Xebec wanted to offer Extend protection plans for both single products and bundled items on their Shopify Plus store. The problem? The standard Extend SDK only supported individual products, not bundles, and its default modal didn’t match the site’s branding or checkout flow.

This created a complex situation:

Bundled products couldn’t display combined warranty options correctly, limiting upsell opportunities
Checkout experience risked confusion and cart abandonment due to UI mismatches and repetitive prompts
Integration needed to work flawlessly with Shopify’s dynamic cart and variable pricing system
They needed a solution that could handle multi-product logic, backend API constraints, and frontend UI design simultaneously—all without relying on the default Extend modal.

Solution

I delivered a custom API-level integration with Extend, handling everything end-to-end: Designed a custom modal that opens automatically when qualifying products or bundles are in the cart. Fetched warranty offers dynamically via Extend API for every product in a bundle, then calculated and displayed totals accurately. Managed Shopify’s variable pricing for bundle components so selected plans added to the cart correctly Built branded UI and UX, replacing Extend’s default modal while maintaining backend compatibility.
